Launch Steam as described here if you're in the same boat that fixed it for me but may not guarantee a fix. I have found that disabling anti-aliasing gives me a huge performance boost went from around 35fps to 60fpsbut the game will crash if you try and change it in the settings. I would say that this game is playable if you don't mind mouse stuttering.
Obviously there is a dip in performance, but at least the mouse is smoother when playing. I have decided to play this game using VMware. I had awful mouse stuttering when playing this game on Ubuntu, I have seen some suggestions to fix this issue but none of them have worked for me.
